Internet Use

We make the internet available to students to use for learning. Using the internet responsibly is a condition of enrolment at our school which all students must accept. We have taken steps to make the internet as safe as possible. All content is filtered to ensure only suitable content can be viewed. The school will teach students to access, use and evaluate online content. These are essential skills in our modern connected world. We have also put in place rules to discourage practices that might be harmful, inappropriate, or illegal.

Use of Mobile Phones & Digital Devices

Our school is a 1:1 digital school. We require all students to have a digital device (with a keyboard) for their day-to-day learning. We strongly recommend that students in Years 7-11 have a Chromebook. Senior students may have a laptop. We accept no liability for the loss of, or damage to, any student’s personal digital device that may be brought to, and used at, school. Students must ensure that their devices are kept safe during times when they are not with their belongings e.g. PE periods and at interval/lunch.

Neat Eatz

Our new Te Aratai canteen will be open in the morning before school, morning tea time and lunch. Serving areas are inside and also windows open to the outside for more serving space.

The usual great food will be available and more once everything is organised. Also fruit, fruit cups, trail mix and bumper slices will still be available. We are now Water Only. Enjoy your new school.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is open in the Waitā (the student centre) each day of the week. It runs each morning before school, from 8.15am until 8.40am. Students are able to call in, get fed, and have a chat. We supply Weetbix, milk and toast, and sometimes sausages or spaghetti, and other treats too. It’s all free!

Our Breakfast Club is staffed by the awesome 24/7 Youth Workers from Strengthening Linwood Youth Trust. Check out their site, and the cool video. It’s not just about the food http://www.strengtheninglinwood.org/

The Kickstart Breakfast initiative is a partnership between Sanitarium, Fonterra and the Ministry of Social Development, who provide our Weetbix and Milk. More info here: https://www.kickstartbreakfast.co.nz/

Couplands Bakery provide us with bread, and Hellars with sausages. Kids Can provides us with preserved fruit, scroggin and baked beans https://www.kidscan.org.nz/

If you want breakfast, or just a warm place and a chat, come to Te Whare Tapere by the canteen.

Ka Ora, Ka Ako lunches in schools

We are excited about Ka Ora, Ka Ako, the school lunch programme. These healthy lunches are free to all LCŌ students every single day. Together, we, Tamai, have decided to take the Ministry of Education option of a group of schools contracting one external provider to supply the range of required health and nutritious lunches. All suppliers are required to meet New Zealand food safety standards and all packaging is to be environmentally sustainable. While we know there are hungry children in every community, we do not always know who they are. Providing lunch to every child means we do not need to single-out those who need it more than others. We will be working with the Ministry of Education on the best way both to understand and meet the diversity of our students’ needs. Please see links below to the lunch menus for our senior and junior ākonga.
