Bilingual Learning Assistant

Bilingual Learning Assistant. Part-time, fixed-term. Applications close Wednesday 15 9am.

Te Aratai College has been granted funding for addressing unmet learning and well-being needs for an increasing number of new migrants and former refugees attending our school. Our current proportion of new migrant and former refugees attending Te Aratai College is 37% and is increasing.

We have part-time, fixed-term until the end of the school year bilingual Learning Assistant hours available which require proficiency with English and then a mixture of the following languages:

– Farsi

– Hindi

– Sinhalese

– Somalian

– Tagalog

Specific hours are given for each language however, it could be you are able to speak more than two of these languages and therefore combine hours, for example if you were proficient in Sinhalese, Hindi and English the hours could be combined to make a 6 hours position. The hours as funded as below:

– Sinhalese and English – 3 weekly hours, term time only beginning as soon as possible.

– Hindi and English – 3 weekly hours, term time only beginning as soon as possible.

– Tagalog and English – 7 weekly hours, term time only beginning as soon as possible.

Somalian and English – 7 weekly hours, term time only beginning as soon as possible.

Farsi and English – 7 weekly hours, term time only beginning as soon as possible.

The role for Sinhalese, Hindi and Tagalog is supporting students in class with the major focus being improving written work and academic language students produce and use over the time they are supported.

The role for Somalian and Farsi is the same as above but also supporting communication between parents and teacher and/or school and home e.g translation of newsletters.
